story
Since 1998 , the Projeto Cetáceos da Costa Branca , from the State University of Rio Grande do Norte (PCCB-UERN) has carried out monitoring, rescue and rehabilitation activities of marine biota on beaches of the Potiguar Basin (Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará), acting in emergency actions in the rescue of marine animals.

1998
As of December 2009, it started to execute and participate in environmental conditioning projects linked to the federal environmental licensing, required by the Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais - IBAMA, for PETROBRAS' E&P activities in the Potiguar Basin, including the Potiguar Basin Beach Monitoring Research Project (PMP-BP).

2009
As a result of this history, in September 2014 the non-profit Non-Governmental Organization was officially established, called Centro de Estudos e Monitoramento Ambiental (CEMAM) , with the objective of carrying out research , monitoring and conservation activities of the environment in marine ecosystems. , coastal and terrestrial associated, including the management of fauna and flora in the Brazilian territory, especially in relation to aquatic mammals, sea turtles, birds and fish, in the states of Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará.
Since its creation, CEMAM has been carrying out various activities in its area of expertise. Over time, four Technical Cooperation Agreements (ACT's) were signed: with the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) , the State University of Rio Grande do Norte (UERN) , with the Institute for Research and Rehabilitation of Animals Marinhos do Espírito Santo (IPRAM-ES) , and with the Instituto Federal Catarinense (IFC) , establishing partnerships for the purpose of exchanging Technical-Scientific information, as well as contributing to the realization of teaching, research, extension and development projects.
CEMAM also carried out numerous provision of services, where some contracts stand out:
1) The first, still in 2014, was established with AQUASIS , for rehabilitation, release, necropsy and tipping in a collection of marine turtles and birds, in the region of influence of the expansion activity of the Multiple Use Terminal of the Port of PECÉM, São Gonçalo do Amarante, Ceará;

2) The second, in 2017, with PGS Investigation Petrolífera – PGS , to assist sea turtles, including transport, rehabilitation, necropsy and carcass analysis within the scope of the 3D Seismic Survey in the Potiguar Basin and Ceará Basin;

3) The third, in 2018, was signed with SPECTRUM GEO DO BRASIL SERVIÇOS GEOFISICOS LTDA, to carry out the expansion of the Potiguar Basin beach monitoring project (PMP-BP), a technical and scientific training program to evaluate the effects of the activity of seismic survey on marine fauna and project for monitoring impacts of platforms and vessels on avifauna (PMAVE-BP).

4) The fourth, in force, with Premier Oil to carry out capacity building and training of the teams of the executing institutions (AQUASIS, AMARES and ITD) of the Project for the Management of Marine Fauna Contaminated by Oil in the Ceará Basin and Brazilian Equatorial Margin, areas of influence of the Oil and Gas Exploration activities conducted by the company.
